The story begins in present-day Florida, where thirteen-year-old Camila stumbles upon a name she's never heard in any history class: Felicitas de Gálvez. What follows is a journey across time — from the sun-baked streets of New Orleans to the swamps of the Gulf Coast — where spies, soldiers, and ordinary people are fighting a war the history books forgot to mention.

Camila sits in her room, reading a history book on the American Revolution she's checked out at the library. There is a chapter titled 'Bernardo de Gálvez — New Orleans, 1779' with a footnote that mentions his wife is Felicitas St. Maxent.
"Who are you?" Camila whispers about the footnote. "And why doesn't anyone know your name?"
The streets of New Orleans hum with tension. The Spanish know what this port city means strategically during the Revolution to defeat their enemies, the British.
"Keep your head down and your ears open," thought Felicitas. "In a city like this, information is worth more than salt."
Felicitas uses her savvy and position to navigate and support the war effort while her husband Bernardo de Gálvez is away fighting battles.
"There," she says softly, pointing to a bag of reales. "That money is desperately needed by the Americans to win."
